Caring for an elderly parent can drain you emotionally and financially. Be sure not to try to handle it all on your own. There are places you can go to for help with both.

  • AARP has a Benefits Quick Link site that will help you find resources to help pay for elderly care, medicine, and food. You will need to know some basics about your parent’s finances.
  • Your Local Agency for the Aging (See www.eldercare.gov.) can help you find day care facilities, free or reduced-priced meals, and home visitation programs.
  • The National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers can help you organize care for your elder parent and still manage your own life. Employee assistance programs may also be of help at some work places.
