Do you like read but don’t like to spend much money on books? Here are a few tips to trim down your budget on book spending:

  1. Find cheap pre-read books at church bazaars, library, or at yard sales.
  2. Go online at FrugalReader.com or Paperbackswap.com for trading books.
  3. Get a library card!
  4. Use your book club for book sharing. Each member could bring two books with names and return addresses, and everyone could forage for a good read.
  5. At many condo developments or vacation resort a book room is available for the residents to borrow and/or exchange books.
  6. Get audio books for long rides. Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores, located along interstates, will let you have book CDs for anywhere from $9.99 to $48.00. If you return the CD, they will refund your money minus $3.49 for each week you have had them.
  7. You can build a library of best-selling audio-books that start as low as 95 cents at the Apple Store if you own a Touch Ipod or IPhone.
  8. There is also a Netflix-like service for readers. BookSwim.com allows you to rent numbers of books each month and has no late fees.
  9. Sell your own pre-read books to a cheap used book store and earn credits towards future low cost books or buy your books at a charity thrift store for next to nothing and still donate to a worth cause at the same time!
  10. If you don’t mind reading books on your computer screen, you should check out Project Gutenberg where you can choose from among thousands of titles.
