Snacks at the grocery stores are some of the most expensive food items. Make your own.
- Make your own trail mix by stirring up nuts, dried fruits, cereal, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, and chocolate bits. Use before games. They are much cheaper than store-bought.
- Make mini-pizzas on bagels and freeze.
- Make burritos and store in freezer bags to go right to the microwave.
- Have a family cook out—but cook in, having everyone make a favorite snack to freeze for later.
- Try buying pistachios as a healthy snack. You get 100 calories per 30 nuts, and pistachios help reduce the bad cholesterol (LDL).
